CAR
TYRES USE AND CARE
Tyres
are the only point of contact between the vehicle and the road.
In all driving conditions, safety depends on a relatively small
contact patch. It is therefore of prime importance that tyres
are maintained in perfect condition at all times and that suitable
replacement tyres are fitted when required.
The tyre fitted as original equipment to a vehicle has been determined
by the vehicle manufacturer in conjunction with the tyre manufacturer,
taking all operating factors into account. A change undertaken
by a third party are not the responsibility of the tyre manufacturer.
TYRE
FITTING AND REMOVAL
These
should only be undertaken by a professional who has the correct
tools and the training to do so.
Incorrect fitting could be the case of a serious accident and
can cause damage to the tyre, tube or wheel.
PRESSURES
Maintaining
correct tyre pressures is of the highest importance for safe driving.
Under-inflation causes undue heat generation of the tyres
constituents.
Using a vehicle with tyres inflated below the recommended pressure
can cause damage to the tyres. This damage is irreversible and
may even lead to the tyre suffering a rapid deflation.
The negative effects of under-inflation are not always immediate
and can even show up after running once again at the correct pressure.
Tyre pressure should be checked regularly, once in a week, not
forgetting the spare. These checks should be done cold
as the pressure increases as a result of heat generation while
running.
TYRES
MUST NEVER BE BLED, ie DEFLATED WHILE HOT.
Pressure
checked "cold" should always correspond to those recommended
by the vehicle or tyre manufacturer (taking into account any specific
conditions, such as towing a caravan), consult the inflation tables.
The valve cap used should incorporate a sealing washer to ensure
complete air tightness and to protect the interior of the valve.
LOAD
CAPACITY AND SPEED RATING
The
majority of tyres carry a service description made up of the load
index (number) and the speed symbol (letter). Tyres fitted as
orginal equipment are designed for the maximum load of the vehicle.
To be sure to fit a suitable tyre that conforms to the local legislation,
always consult a professional.
CARE
OF TYRES
Tyres
should be examined regularly with particular attention paid to
the following :
The tread area : check for abnormal
wear, cuts, localized deformations and foreign bodies (stones,
nails
)
sidewall : check for cuts, cracks,
shock ruptures from kerbing, pot-holes
), rubbing and abnormal
deformations.
Abnormalities in running : heavy vibrations,
pulling to the left or right, etc. should also to get checked
as soon as possible. In the case of a loss of pressure, it is
important to stop as soon as possible as running under-inflated
can cause serious damage to a tyre.
The tyre should be removed and checked to find the reason for
the loss of pressure.
any abnormality should be shown to a professional who can decide
whether a repair is feasible and necessary. Repairs should only
be carried out by a specialist. For the repair of tubeless tyre,
it is strongly recommended that the inside of the tyre is examined
for damage before proceeding and that suitable replacement should
be made , as and when required.
